I offer a free “interview“ where you can decide if I am the Doula for you.

I can travel to you, within 90 minutes of the Southend On sea area.

All Doulas work differently and have their own skills, if I’m not your Doula I have connections across various Doula networks to help you find them.

I have trained with both Red Tent Doulas and Abuela Doulas so I have a diverse range of connections in the birthing world, so I am confident i can help you find the right person to support you.

I have a Doula Buddy in Rachel Spence, scroll to the bottom for more information.

Birthing Support

My job as a Doula is to support you in your choices. If you want a home water birth or planned cesarean birth, Doulas are for all.

My training with two highly revered Doula "schools" has taught me the power of being and not simply doing or trying to fix everything, its your birth and my role is to help you be able to dance together not lead.

Birthing support means, I meet with you at least twice before your birth.

We’ll have time to form a relationship and for you to tell me everything and anything you want from your pregnancy and birth.

During pregnancy, I can support you remotely or in person when you attend appointments with midwifes or consultants. (There is an additional charge for attending appointments in person)

I can also help you organise your thoughts on your birth plan, talk through options, provide practical ideas and solutions to any bumps in the road you may or may not envisage.

I go on call for you, around 38 weeks and this means my phone is always on, yes 24/7!

I’m ready to drop what I’m doing and come to be by your side.

Around the time I go on call, we’ll work out what my response time will be, taking into account distance, traffic, time of day and everything in between.

During the birth, my role is to support the entire birth team. This could be greeting midwifes and making sure they have read and understood your birth plan, helping fill the pool, up to physically comforting you with a Rebozo, lighting candles or finding your hipnobirthing tracks.

Sometimes I am hired purely to support the partner of the birthing person. Having an experienced, calm and lionhearted parent of two around who has supported families for many years can put everyone at ease.

Once baby has joined us I’ll make sure you are comfortable, nourished and have everything you need before I leave you to your baby moon.

This might be an hour or three, everyone is different but I know the importance of oxytocin at this time, and being able to snuggle in bed with your loved one and new baby at this time will bring great joy, chemically and emotionally for all of you, especially the birthing parent and baby.

I’ll also visit with you at least once after baby has joined us, we can chat, go over anything you want to revisit.

I can help you find any additional professionals you might need immediately postpartum: chiropractor, IBCLC etc.

I have worked with many professionals as a parent, and as a Doula and usually know some fantastic providers. If I don't have the information to hand,  I have all the resources of the two Doula schools I trained with at my finger tips.

I have supported families  at home across, Essex, Kent, London and Hertfordshire.

I have supported families as a Doula at Southend University Hospital, Durant Valley Hospital - Dartford Kent,

Homerton Hospital - Hackney East London,  Broomfield Hospital - Chelmsford Essex  and UCLH in Central London.

If you aren't sure if i would cover your area then please just drop me a line.

Further to this, I offer further postpartum services as described on the postpartum page.

Doula Buddy!

Rachel Spence - Creative Birth. Hynobirthing & Doula services in Chelmsford, Essex and beyond

Most Doulas work with a regular "back up".

Someone with simular personality, passions and Doula style.

Rachel and I have known each other for sometime now and love and respect the way each other Doulas. Drawing comparisons from our own parenting journey as well as our Doula journey.

It's good sense to have a back up incase of emergencies, very long labours, or anything else that might keep me from you. So if the worst happens you have the option to tag in Rachel to your birthing team.

This is entirely optional, you do not have to have Rachel, you can have another Doula, or no back up - that is of course your choice entirely.
